Issues with Selecting Links Windows 7 Internet Explorer 8.  Links just don't do anything
Having issues with Internet Explorer 8 in Windows 7 Build 7600 Links just don't work. I believe it has something to do with Java on the page but not sure. IE8 is basically unuable. Have to use Google Chrome or Firefox. Hate these browsers.. Whats up with IE8? Any one else. Classic example is any link in Yahoo's Web Email

As Carey mentioned, try reset IE8 settings first.Note: the following steps will remove all of installed add-ons and reset IE to default settings. We need to reinstall the add-ons after resetting. 1. Click "Start", type "inetcpl.cpl" (without quotation marks) into Search bar and press "Enter" to open the Internet Options window. 2. Switch to the "Advanced" tab. 3. Click "Reset" to reset Internet Explorer settings. 4. Check "Delete personal settings" box and click "Reset" to confirm the operation. 5. Click "Close" when the resetting process is complete. 6. Close the Internet Explorer window and restart IE to check the issue. For more information about how to troubleshoot the Internet Explorer 8 issue, please refer to the following article: You cannot view, access, or load some Web pages when you use Internet Explorer 8 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/967897 in addition, please let me know if the issue occurs on all websites or not. If it just occurs on specific website, please provide the link.

Yeah thanks guys.. I did all that.. Even called Technical Support for Microsoft about a month ago. They had me do all those things. An example is many of the links on Yahoo's page. For example, the Yahoo Mail Top Stories page when you log into Windows. For some reason if you click on those links nothing happens. Would be interested in more suggestions. Thanks Mike

Will the same issue occur in a new account? Create one to test. Meanwhile, is there any security program installed such as antivirus program or firewall? Disable them to see the result.

I know that this is an old thread and I read it about a month ago in trying to solve my Windows 7 problems, very similar. Java script wouldn’t run. Links on the page wouldn’t work. Long, long time to load. Nothing I did from any of the support sites I found helped me. Then – amazing, I discovered that my computer came with two copies IE 8 – a 32 bit copy (which is what I had been running) and a 64 bit copy. When I discovered that I switched to the 64 bit version of IE 8 and I haven’t had problem one since then. It now loads fast, all links on the page work, and no weird error messages either.
